Gradient of Disorder is a heavy metal band from Vienna, formed in 2005 by physics students at the Vienna University of Technology. What started as an experiment became a passionate musical journey that continues to this day.

The band combines classic metal riffs with unexpected influences — including Eva’s unique concert flute — into a sound that defies easy categorization: heavy metal with a Gradient of Disorder.

Dominik
Dominik
Vocals

Dominik (Celtic for “man who stands on a glacier in corpse paint at night and yodels” [citation needed]) assumed vocal duties in 2024 — like Heracles lifting the world from Atlas’s shoulders — taking over from Wolfdietrich. In doing so, he not only demonstrated the courage to join a band of wandering lunatics, but also stole Sascha’s title of newest band member.

But is he powerful enough to survive his new calling? Yes! He is a festival veteran of the 666th degree, and rumour has it he’s seen certain bands perform more times than those bands have actually given concerts. Black magic, extraordinary endurance, or time machines? We don’t know, but any of the above would be impressive.

As Blood Lord of Bits, Grand Inquisitor of Gigabytes, and Arranger of Applications, he commands things that would appear as sorcery to ordinary Vikings. “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic,” as Arthur C. Clarke once noted. If you ask nicely, he can even [redacted] your [redacted] so that your [redacted] [redacted].

Will he enrich G.O.D. with alpine black metal? Or succumb to the siren song of erotic Viking ballads? Or both? Find out in the next season of “Gradient of Disorder Works on an Album for a Decade.”

Klaus
Klaus
„Der Kreative"
Guitar & Vocals

The Maestro, also known as The Artist, or formerly “The K” — our musical mastermind. Klaus is a stern voice of reason in… just kidding. But at least he enforces mythical concepts like “minimum standards” and “music theory” upon musical cave-dwellers like Gilbert. One day we’ll be good enough to manifest his visionary music. Until then, you’ll have to make do with whatever you hear from G.O.D.

When he’s not listening to the most complex death metal imaginable — likely sent back through time by our future AI overlords as encrypted instructions for the inevitable machine uprising — Klaus is our studio wizard and Lord of Electrons, wrestling with bits and occasionally even bytes to turn them into audible results.

We’d love to elaborate on his important work on important things, but even after decades of diligent intelligence gathering, we’re no wiser than before. He is certainly not the head of an international spy ring, even though nobody would be surprised if he were. Or is he? We’ll probably never know. This message is made from 100% recycled humour and cannot self-destruct. Please destroy this message yourself.

Martin
Martin
„Wergnom"
Guitar & Vocals

Lord of Fire, Maker of Stuff, Scourge of Lower Austria, Conqueror of Riffs — the Wergnom. G.O.D.’s founding member and guitar-vocalist is a force to be reckoned with — why else would he keep an emergency battle-axe in his hallway? Martin is unquestionably the band member with the greatest practical aptitude: hammer, axe, or tachyon deflector — he always has the right tool. He’s also an annoyingly photogenic bastard, which is completely unfair.

One important piece of advice: if you hear him giggling — run! Direction doesn’t matter, just away. Also avoid him during a full moon, because [CENSORED] his [CENSORED] with [CENSORED] at all costs [CENSORED]. Okay, that was actually two pieces of advice — our mistake.

There is also a malicious rumour that must be addressed: Martin is not the secret identity of Captain Merchandise. We have definitely seen both of them in the same room at the same time, and I write this entirely free of any influence — you can put the axe down now, Martin. To all doubters: look deep into his eyes. Could such a fiery soul really spend his time on a wooden ship plundering the seven seas?

Gilbert
Gilbert
„ist schuld"
Bass & Growls

The man. The mystery. More precisely, the mystery is: “What on earth is going on inside his head?!” — we will never know. What we do know is that the enthusiastic scientist and certified Gilsplainer still finds time to exact revenge on the laws of nature as G.O.D.’s bassist and growler. If you have to ask why, please read this text again. His burning desire for EPICNESS occasionally strains the nerves of his bandmates.

When he’s not making GOD-ly noise, he produces atmospheric/spacey sounds with his side project Commander Deep (two albums so far) — and runs a gaming channel called Professor Plays.

Sascha
Sascha
„Harmoniebärchen"
Drums

The band’s harmony bear — in personality, not body shape. His inability to NOT get along with people may seem strange given his law degree, but it probably helped him establish himself as “the new drummer” — though after nearly ten years in the band, that title has quietly retired itself.

When he’s not annoying his bandmates by trying to sneak weird prog stuff into the songwriting, he’s exposing his two daughters to epic power metal and absurd prog, hoping to infect them with his love of drums, bass, and guitar. The part of his sprawling mind not occupied by music is filled with economics, politics, silly historical anecdotes, and obscure topics like McMansions (Editor’s note: no idea what he’s talking about). Don’t ask.

Eva
Eva
„Die schwarze Seele"
Concert Flute

The dark soul who lives in the mountains — quietly settled with family, dog, and a house with a garden. Nobody would ever suspect her of being responsible for the band’s flute wizardry. As the Wergnom’s sister she joined the band, stayed, and will see every high and low through to the bitter end. Stubbornness runs in the family.

What she gets up to when she’s not attending epic G.O.D. concerts or band rehearsals cannot be revealed, as her employer insists on the strictest confidentiality.
